How my company supported a cause near and dear to my heart

This past April, my wife and I rode our bikes 110 miles from Oakland to Sacramento. Not just for fun, or for exercise, but for something bigger: to help raise money for Oakland and Alameda Public Schools with a non-profit fundraising group called Ride 4A Reason.

The effort was good for the heart, on so many levels. We trained like crazy: putting in hundreds of miles, riding on cold early mornings, in the rain and wind. We made many friends along the way and discovered beautiful parts of the Bay Area we’d never seen before. The ride was challenging and crossing the finish line was exhilarating. But what I hold most dear is the result: through individual donations—and a very generous donation from my company, Gunderson Direct—I raised over $2,500, all of which goes directly to the schools and the kids in our local community.

Supporting Ride 4A Reason, an organization I’m passionate about, is a way for me to make a positive impact in my community. When Gunderson Direct supported me by donating, it took my fundraising contributions to the next level and gave me a sense of pride in my company—and an appreciation that they value my interests. Sharing my philanthropic interests with co-workers also created a sense of camaraderie and engagement that contributes to our company’s culture and positive work environment.

Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.

When your employer encourages and supports your philanthropic efforts, it’s a win-win situation for the employees and the company. It can foster a sense of purpose, loyalty, and engagement among employees, while also enhancing the company’s reputation. So if you’re passionate about a cause, don’t hesitate to raise it with your employer and see how they can support your efforts to make a positive impact. And if you’re an employer, ask your employees what causes they support, then see how you can pitch in. It can definitely be a win-win for all involved.

Gunderson Direct has long-lasting relationships with some of the country’s largest corporations, helping them to lower their customer acquisition costs and increase profits using address-based integrated direct marketing programs.
