Help us keep up the pace! We’re looking for a Senior Copywriter with strong Direct Response chops to drive a variety of print and digital projects. Remote applicants (that can work on Pacific/West Coast time) are encouraged!

Our work is both B2C and B2B. Overall, clients cluster in broadly-defined financial, technology, and healthcare categories — from promising startups to household names. Digital integration is a key part of many of our programs, and you’ll be a key part of the team that will be building, designing, and delivering these DM and DM-first cross channel programs.
The right candidate will have 5-8 years of copywriting under their belt, including direct response/direct mail experience. They’ll know how important empathy and human understanding are within messaging. They’ll craft copy that showcases the real and tangible human need the product/service satisfies — clearly and succinctly. They’ll know how to present offers and create CTAs that drive response. And they’ll collaborate with awesome art directors, data disciples, and account maestros to create winning work that moves people, and moves the needle.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with our small but mighty creative team (and our quiver of super-sharp freelancers)
- Co-concept and write on-brief direct mail campaigns and digital marketing assets, built upon best practices and designed to exceed client objectives
- Maintain brand voice across concepts and stay on-message to represent the client’s interests
- Present and sell the work, internally and to clients
- Contribute to creative thought leadership (via blog writing, social media posts, etc.)
Desired Skills and Experience
- 5-8 years of copywriting experience, w/ direct mail and financial expertise
- Detail-oriented, creative and critical thinker, energetic
- A firm understanding of DM strategy + testing strategies
- Great time management and organizational skills
- Self-motivated/self-starter mindset with ability to work independently
- Strong communication skills, formal and informal: email, slack, calls, zooms and, who knows, even in person
- Familiarity with Google Suite, Mac OS, Dropbox (Slack is a plus, too)

Project Manager

Help us keep up the growth pace by helping us to get things done. We seek a motivated Project Manager to join our account team as part of our plan to get to the next level. You don’t need to know direct mail; you do need to enjoy managing complex projects, know how to keep things moving and want to be a part of a growing and dynamic team.
Our project managers are in the middle of it all. The role of Project Manager at Gunderson Direct breaks down into the following key functions:
- Account team liaison — You are the grease in the wheels between the account team and agency creative, data and production departments to coordinate resources to ensure timely delivery of agency deliverables.
- Project timetable creation and management — Deadlines are fun! You’ll work with teams to create project schedules and you’ll play a pivotal role making sure we meet them.
- Internal scheduling — Who’s doing what, and when. Who reviews what, and when. (And even why.) You’ll be setting up meetings to kick off and review projects.
- Team meetings — Facilitate daily and weekly meetings between the account team and agency departments — briefly discuss current jobs and new client activity.
- Support your account team — Beyond a scheduler, you’ll help by providing background research on projects, overseeing creative revisions and assisting with PowerPoint content.
- Project forecasting — Work with the new business team to forecast upcoming projects and coordinate internal resources to jump on great new opportunities.
- Level 10 meetings — Take part in weekly account team meetings that actively identify and work towards solutions to the agency’s operational and growth challenges. On a scale of 1-10 we aim for a Level 10 every time.
Our work is mostly direct mail, both B2C and B2B. Recently, the agency’s client base has grown dramatically taking us into a variety of categories. Overall, clients cluster in broadly defined financial, technology and healthcare categories — from promising startups to household names. Digital integration with direct mail is taking on greater importance and you’ll be part of the team integrating cross-channel programs.
Strong communication skills are a must — formal and informal. Email, slack, calls, zooms and, who knows, even in person.

- 2+ years’ business experience running programs, projects, etc.
- Comfortable with a range of business software, including Office and Google suites
- Project, budget and timeline management skills

- Agency and/or marketing experience preferred, but not required
- Bay Area presence preferred, but not required. This is likely to be a hybrid office/WFH position

The role of Account Executive at Gunderson Direct breaks down into the following key functions:
- Managing multi-cell, sophisticated direct marketing programs — mostly direct mail and often with a digital component. Project management skills are key.
- Account and strategic leadership — recommending testing programs, campaign analysis, program optimization, mail plans and the like to serve and grow existing clients
- Establishing strong client relationships — a mix of value-add service and personal relationship building
- Motivating internal teams — you’ll provide them direction and insights so our agency delivers the highest quality work across direct marketing disciplines
- Our work is mostly direct mail, both B2C and B2B. Since COVID, the agency’s client base has grown dramatically taking us into a variety of categories. Overall, clients cluster in broadly defined financial, technology and healthcare categories — from promising startups to household names. Digital integration with direct mail is taking on greater importance and you’ll be part of the team integrating cross-channel programs.
- Strong communication skills are a must — general writing skills, creating briefs, developing presentations and the ability to deliver in live/online client meeting situations.

- 2+ years’ direct mail project or account management, or relevant experience
- Working knowledge of traditional and digital marketing as well as the print production process
- Project, budget and timeline management skills
- Comfortable reviewing and commenting on internal creative and data targeting recommendations
- Familiarization with direct marketing metrics and analytics
- Self-motivated, self-starter, entrepreneurial mindset with ability to work independently
- Enjoy managing and relating to clients of various levels in a wide range of industries
- Agency experience preferred, but not required
- A Bay Area presence. While currently a remote position, we will eventually want a presence in our Hayward, CA office 2-3 days a week to collaborate most effectively with agency teams.
